dipiù Spa: A place to slow down

Sometimes it is not the grand experiences that define a stay. It is the hours in between. Those moments when there is nothing to achieve, nowhere to be, and you are simply allowed to exist in the present.
At Giardino Ascona, there is a place dedicated precisely to that: the dipiù Spa.
While Ticino’s palm trees sway gently in the breeze outside and Lake Maggiore lies just a short walk away, the spa opens up a world that operates at a deliberately slower pace. The sense of calm is noticeable from the moment you step inside. There is no rush, no overdesigned wellness spectacle. Instead, warm materials, soft lighting, and inviting spaces encourage guests to linger.
At the heart of the spa is the indoor pool. The water is perfectly tempered, the atmosphere serene and understated. During the summer months, much of the experience extends outdoors. Between sun loungers, lush greenery, and the outdoor pool, guests can enjoy the relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle for which Ticino is so well known.
Yet the true experience often begins one floor below.
In the Edelsteinstube and the Emerald Steam Bath, time quickly seems to lose its meaning. The warmth is soothing, the fragrances subtle, and the surroundings pleasantly restrained. Nothing demands attention. Everything feels designed to calm both body and mind.
Today, the Giardino Spa is about far more than relaxation alone.
“Modern recovery means holistic wellbeing,” Daniela Frutiger, CEO of the Giardino Group, tells me. “It is about consciously taking a pause. Movement, regeneration, mindfulness, and nutrition are just as important to us as traditional spa treatments.”
This philosophy can be felt throughout the entire concept. The in-house skincare line, dipiù Cosmetics, runs like a common thread through many of the treatments, giving the spa its own distinctive identity. Rather than offering a collection of generic treatments, the experience feels cohesive and personal.
One of its greatest luxuries is the freedom to shape the day according to individual needs. Some guests begin with a workout in the modern fitness area, others choose a massage, while many spend hours moving between the pool, sauna, and relaxation rooms.
We opt for the so-called “Ladies Break”, a combination of an aroma massage, facial treatment, manicure, and pedicure. None of it feels spectacular in the conventional sense. And perhaps that is exactly why it works so well. As the treatment begins, everyday concerns quietly fade into the background, and one suddenly realizes how rarely time is truly reserved for oneself.
Daniela Frutiger has observed this growing need among guests as well.
“Our guests are increasingly seeking conscious breaks from everyday life. Retreat and privacy play an important role, but so does the desire to invest in long-term wellbeing. It is less about quick recovery and more about creating lasting balance.”
The dipiù Spa does not promise miracles or overnight transformations. Instead, it offers something far more valuable: a space where guests can genuinely unwind. A place where there is no need to be constantly occupied.
As we step outside later that evening, the light filters softly through the Ticino palms. The sun reflects gently across the koi pond. And for a brief moment, the world feels exactly as it should: a little slower, a little quieter, and remarkably light.
