Art Basel is, in my eyes, a place of joy for everyone who loves and values art and enjoys the colourful diversity of society. This event offers a special opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of art and to be inspired by creative works.

The Fascination of Art Basel

Art Basel is not just a fair but a cultural highlight that attracts artists, art enthusiasts, gallerists and collectors from all over the world every year. It is a place where the boundaries of creativity are crossed and new trends are set. What I find particularly inspiring are the many sections and events that Art Basel offers.

Unlimited: Creativity Without Limits

One of my favourite places at Art Basel is the Unlimited sector. Here there is room for works of art that would not fit into a traditional exhibition hall. From monumental sculptures and large-scale installations to innovative video and sound works – Unlimited shows that art knows no boundaries.

Side Events: Photo Basel, Artbox and more. Alongside the main fair, numerous side events enrich the Art Basel experience. Photo Basel is a must for photography enthusiasts, while projects such as Artbox offer innovative platforms for emerging artists. Design Miami, which takes place alongside Art Basel, is another highlight and presents works by contemporary designers.

Exclusive Experiences for VIPs and Collectors

The first days of Art Basel are reserved for invited guests. Members of the press, VIPs and selected clients have the opportunity to explore the works in a calm and intimate atmosphere. Particularly impressive is the Collectors Lounge, where sponsors such as UBS or NetJets welcome their clients and selected artists. Here you can feel the pulse of the art scene and now and then meet well-known faces.

How Do I Become an Art Collector? 10 Tips for Getting Started

For those who would like to take the step into art collecting, I have put together 10 tips:

  1. Learn and educate yourself: Visit museums, galleries and fairs. Read books and specialist magazines about art.

  2. Networking: Make contacts in the art world. Talk to gallerists, artists and other collectors.

  3. Find your focus: Find out which art movement or period interests you most.

  4. Set a budget: Decide on an amount you would like to invest and stick to it.

  5. Check authenticity: Pay attention to the provenance and authenticity of the works.

  6. Support emerging artists: Invest in works by emerging artists – they are often still accessible and can grow in value.

  7. Seek art advice: Use the expertise of art advisers to make well-founded decisions.

  8. Take a long-term view: See art not only as an investment but also as a lasting enrichment.

  9. Emotional connection: Buy works that move you and with which you feel a personal connection.

  10. Be patient: Collecting art is a process that takes time and patience.

Art Basel is an ideal place to begin your journey into art collecting. Let yourself be inspired, immerse yourself in the world of art and enjoy the diversity and creativity this event offers.
