The Donna Portals: Art and Sea in Portals Nous
Arriving in Portals Nous, the first thing you see is white: a curved façade above the bay, light on smooth surfaces and the sea beyond. The Donna Portals is about fifteen minutes from Palma, close to the Puerto Portals marina, with its own access to the beach. Formerly the Iberostar Grand Portals Nous, the hotel reopened under its new name in March 2024.
A hotel as a gallery
The interiors are by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders. His signature is playful yet precise: sculptural furniture, textured walls, a great deal of white and details you only notice on second glance. In some rooms a large illuminated iris separates the bedroom from the bathroom.
The art is presented together with 2B Art Gallery. In the lobby, corridors and lounges you meet works by urban artists such as Ben Eine, Nick Walker and Javier Garló, as well as pieces by Kaws and Bearbrick figures by Medicom. Once a week a curator leads a tour through the collection, and QR codes beside the works link to the catalogue.
Art here is not decoration. It accompanies your stay, from breakfast to the evening by the bay.
Rooms and suites
64 rooms and suites, almost all with sea views and a private balcony. There are also themed suites, among them a Star Gazer Suite with a telescope for clear Mallorcan nights. The Penthouse Panorama Suite opens onto the bay through floor-to-ceiling windows.
Spa, beach and dining
Donna Spa: white treatment rooms, a wet area with sauna and steam room, rituals such as Kobido. The design is inspired by constellations.
Donna Beach: sunbeds, Bali beds and paddle boards by the water, sunset cocktails in the evening.
Cascade pool: a waterfall pool that echoes the rhythm of the waves.
Merchants by the Sea: Mediterranean cuisine overlooking the bay, plus The Oyster Shed for oysters and champagne.
A 24-hour gym and a programme of classes for guests.
Who it is for
For anyone who likes to combine travel with art and design: a weekend in Palma with gallery visits, a few quiet days by the sea, or a break outside high season, when the light on Mallorca is especially soft.
