5 things that make a visit to Globus worthwhile
Why we still like the idea of a department store; especially when it feels less like shopping and more like discovery.

In a time when almost everything can be ordered with just a few clicks, there is actually no longer a need for a place where fashion, beauty, design and food come together under one roof.
And yet they do exist: those moments when you walk through a department store without a concrete plan and go home with an idea, a new fragrance or an ingredient that you weren't even looking for.
That's precisely part of Globus 's appeal for us . The Swiss department store now unites more than 2,000 brands from fashion, beauty, home, food and other sectors.
Five reasons why we sometimes prefer to go there instead of just scrolling.

1. You discover things you weren't even looking for.
We usually find what we're looking for online.
Offline we sometimes find something we didn't know we would like.
At Globus, it might be a perfume you only meant to try briefly. A vase among design objects. A bag from a brand that had never been on your radar before. Or simply a product that stands out between two completely different categories.
This type of discovery is difficult to translate into an algorithm.
Perhaps that is precisely why curation has become more interesting again today than having as much choice as possible.
2. Beauty works better when you can truly experience it.
Few categories are as personal as beauty.
How does a texture feel? How does a fragrance develop after twenty minutes? Does a color really work on one's own skin?
In recent years, Globus has expanded its beauty offerings, including with its own beauty studios designed to showcase new skincare, hair and make-up concepts.
And this is precisely where physical retail still makes sense.
A screenshot can do many things. It can't wear a fragrance.
3. A good department store connects worlds.
We like places that don't commit themselves too strongly.
You come in looking for a blouse and end up browsing the interior design pieces. You're looking for a gift and eventually find yourself at Delicatessa. Or you're just popping in for beauty products and suddenly start thinking about which glasses you're missing at home.
The current Globus product range extends from fashion and beauty to kitchen, table and living, as well as wine and delicacies.
What's interesting is less the quantity than the mix. Good taste rarely works in just one category. What we wear, how we live, what we eat, and what we give as gifts ultimately tell pretty similar stories about us.
4. Sometimes service is the real luxury.
Luxury is often defined by products.
Often it's much more mundane: someone who takes their time. A garment that can be altered immediately. Shopping that's delivered to your home. Or advice when you're not quite sure what you're looking for.
Globus offers services including personal shopping, alteration studios and home delivery from its department stores.
Exactly the kind of things that suddenly make shopping uncomplicated.
Convenience is perhaps one of the most underrated forms of luxury these days.
5. The best part may still be at the bottom.
Anyone familiar with Globus is probably also familiar with this phenomenon: You pop into the delicatessen "just for a minute." And come back with significantly more.
Between the cheese counter, pastries, wine, fresh produce, and items you hadn't even planned on buying, food perhaps works best as an experience. Globus also combines its product range with recipes, culinary inspiration, and its own on-site dining options.
It's less shopping and more browsing in edible form. And that's something we generally have a weakness for.
The DAPPO Take
Perhaps we don't need department stores today as much as we used to.
But perhaps that's precisely the point. A good department store no longer has to be the place where we buy everything. It can be the place where we discover something .
A new label. A fragrance. A dinner idea. An object for the home. Or simply ten minutes of inspiration between appointments.
And sometimes we'd rather go through a real door than through the next tab!
