Autumn home ideas: classics and colour accents

In autumn the light changes. It reaches deeper into the rooms, evenings begin earlier, and home becomes the place where we spend our time again. It is a good moment to rethink a room: with pieces that stay, and with accents that bring warmth and colour.

Our autumn home ideas follow two thoughts. First the classics, calm shapes in leather, wood and black that carry a room. Then the colour accents: red, orange, green and rose as small gestures that bring a room to life.

Classics

You recognise a classic by the fact that it need not be loud. An armchair with good upholstery, a table of solid wood, a sideboard with clear fronts: they give a room an order in which everything else finds its place. In autumn it is above all warm materials, leather, oak and walnut, that make a home feel comfortable.

How to combine: choose two or three materials that repeat, such as dark leather, light wood and matt black. A lamp with warm light on the sideboard replaces the ceiling light in the evening.

Colour accents

When the base is calm, colour may step forward. A red table beside the sofa, an orange piece in the kitchen, green glass on the table: accents like these recall the leaves outside and bring cheer to grey days. A pop-art object may surprise with a touch of humour.

How to combine: choose one accent colour per room and repeat it two or three times, for example red in the table, a cushion and a vase. That way colour looks intended rather than accidental.
