Last minute to the Red Sea: winter warmth at Kempinski Soma Bay

There are those late-autumn days when the sky over Zurich never quite gets light. Then a single thought is often enough: sun on your skin, warm sand, the sound of the Red Sea. A few hours of flying, and winter is only a memory.

A spontaneous decision worth making

Last minute does not mean giving up on style. Right now, as the days grow shorter, alltours has short-notice offers to the Red Sea, including some of the finest addresses on the coast. You can find the current dates under Last Minute Egypt.

Our choice is a house that combines calm with grandeur: the Kempinski Hotel Soma Bay. A luxury-class resort, five stars by local classification, on a peninsula south of Hurghada.

Arriving in Soma Bay

The resort lies in a quiet spot directly on a 400-metre private sandy beach. Its heart is a pool landscape of around 7,000 square metres with waterfalls, four pools and a lazy river where you can drift until you lose track of time. Many rooms look out over the lagoon or the sea.

The architecture recalls oriental palaces: arcades, domes, muted colours. If you are looking for even more privacy, choose a Laguna Club room. The club is reserved for adults and has its own lounge with breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks into the evening.

Between sea, spa and sundowner

The days belong to the water. A PADI-certified dive school leads you to the reefs of the Red Sea, kitesurfers and sailors find their spot in Soma Bay, and the golf course is only about 500 metres away. For the quieter hours there is a sauna, a jacuzzi and the thalasso spa next door.

When the sun sinks low, the loveliest ritual begins: the daily sundowner, with live music several times a week. Then dinner at the main restaurant «The View» or Asian cuisine at «Bamboo Shoot». Guests are asked to dress appropriately for dinner, a small hint at how people travel here.
